Welcome Toddler Parents

Introduction to our Toddler Class

We are excited to accompany you on this adventure!

We would like to take this opportunity to welcome you into our community. We recognize that this can be an anxious transition for both you as parents and for the children. We are here to help!

Here are some things we’d like you to know about our class as you bring your precious ones into our care:

  • We will love your child fiercely and seek their best interest in every instance
  • We will communicate with you primarily in person or by email
  • We will be honest, fair, and compassionate in our actions and words
  • We work hard to set up the classroom with the children in mind

At the beginning you may see only a few materials on the shelves. As the children grow in their ability to clean up after themselves and follow our class routine, the materials will increase in quantity and complexity.

Your child may cry for several days (sometimes a week or more) upon separating from you at school. Rest assured, this is typical and expected. We are waiting with open arms to comfort your dear ones!

Your child will get dirty: independence plus curiosity sometimes means messes, especially as your child is building their coordination in different ways throughout the year. This is a crucial part of their learning.

Your child will be given quite a bit of freedom within very firm limits: we observe every child’s actions so that we can understand their motivation before we intervene. Exceptions include those actions which are dangerous or disrespectful to themselves, peers, teachers, or the environment.

Your child may not eat as much at school as they do at home, especially during the first several weeks. This is typical. You may find they want to eat the remainder of their lunch in the car on the way home. Consider packing food which is car-friendly for a few weeks, just in case.
The same can be said for nap. Your child may sleep less as they adjust to new sounds and sights. Your child may sleep more because they have exhausted their growing bodies and busy minds during the morning. It’s not uncommon for new students to fall asleep during lunch!
