Ruth & Charles Marcon

Ruth and Charles Marcon are life-long residents of the Lehigh Valley. They are loyal supporters of education, the arts, and community organizations.

Ruth grew up in Allentown. She graduated from Dieruff High School, attended Allegheny College, and graduated from Penn State University. She has a Master of Education degree from Lehigh University. Ruth taught preschool, and English in high school and middle school. She taught children’s literature as an adjunct at Muhlenberg College, Cedar Crest College, and Lehigh Carbon Community College. She was a volunteer with Head Start, with Planned Parenthood, and with the refugee resettlement program through her church, First Presbyterian of Allentown.

Charles grew up in Bethlehem. He graduated from Liberty High School and attended Davidson College. He graduated from Davidson as an ROTC 2nd lieutenant. After his military service he went to work with Duggan and Marcon, Inc., a family construction business. He became president of the company in 1983 and has recently retired. He is currently a trustee of the Trexler Trust and is chairman of the board of the National Museum of Industrial History. (NIMH) He also serves on the boards of The Century Promise and Lehigh Valley Justice Institute.

Ruth and Charles have 4 children and 12 grandchildren. In addition to spending time with family, Charles enjoys golf, reading, Connections, Word le and going to the movies. Ruth enjoys her book groups, Wardle, the NY Times puns and anagrams, and going to the movies. She frequently visits NYC for ballet, opera and theater. Because of her love of children’s literature, she has a large collection of children’s books.
