Teacher Spotlight – Radhika Hoshing

Meet Radhika Hoshing, an elementary teacher for grades one through six and Grace Montessori School’s Director. In early education graduate school at Bombay University in India, Ms. Radhika’s professor recommended a book called “The Absorbent Mind” written by Maria Montessori, the founder of the Montessori Method of Teaching. As she read, she quickly fell in love with the Montessori way of learning and teaching. Its practical hands-on approach and creative learning style led Ms. Radhika to continue her research and enroll herself in a Montessori program.

Ms. Radhika trained at the Montessori Institute of Milwaukee and completed her course in 2006, receiving AMI Certification. The course explored ways to teach children of all needs, hands-on techniques, and self-driven learning. In 2021, she became certified as a Dyslexia practitioner from the Children’s Dyslexia Center to help struggling students adapt.

“Montessori education caters to the needs of all children. It considers children’s different tendencies like order, repetition, control of error, and exploration. The Montessori method is based on self-directed activity, hands-on learning, and collaborative work, which I admire,” reflected Ms. Radhika.

Ms. Radhika started as a Montessori teacher in 2006 and later joined Grace Montessori in 2008. She quickly progressed to Program Director in 2011 and Director in 2015. As Director of Grace Montessori, Ms. Radhika oversees education programs and ensures everything runs smoothly within the school. She believes that high-quality education is the right of all children, and it should be accessible to all families. Ms. Radhika is proud to be a part of Grace Montessori as our mission aligns with her core beliefs.

“Grace Montessori School is a non-profit organization that serves low-income populations through scholarships. Our small community treats everyone like family from teachers to administrative staff. I work with a faculty that relentlessly gives back to the community, and it’s evident to see when you look at our retention rate. It speaks volumes of the dedicated team we have. I truly enjoy working here because of the individuals that make Grace Montessori.” reflected Ms. Radhika.

Her proudest moment of teaching is watching each of her students improve from first grade to sixth grade and become role models for the younger students to shadow. If she could leave her students with one lesson, it would be to understand the importance of freedom and the responsibility that comes with it.

“Freedom within limits is an empowering concept in a Montessori environment. It supports the child as an explorer capable of learning and doing things by him or herself. Montessori encourages freedom within limits by designing the prepared environment, the classroom,” said Ms. Radhika.

In her free time, you can find her crocheting, reading nonfiction books, playing, and building Legos with her children.
